NATHAN Jones is one of Melbourne’s greatest servants of all-time.
In fact, he sits second on the club’s games played list, trailing only to former skipper David Neitz (306 games).
And while he’s approaching the end of his decorated career, the 32-year-old believes he can contribute to the Demons’ success in 2021.
“If I was to go on, my thinking would be around what I can still offer to the group,” Jones said on the club’s Captain’s Run podcast.
“I’ve had a tough year really, with injury in particular, but in saying that I’ve probably learnt more than I ever have just in really different ways of being able to influence and impact the group.”
The three-time Bluey Truscott Trophy winner, who has pulled on the red and blue guernsey on 294 occasions to date, has one eye on the future, but says there are bigger things to worry about at this stage of the season.
“From a mental point of view, I feel really balanced and excited about what I can potentially offer next year, but they’re discussions that we’ll have at some point in time,” Jones said.
“More importantly at the moment we’re trying to vie for a finals position, and to be honest, I’m just trying my best to get back on the field from a performance point of view.
“But off-field, develop myself and offer my skills and leadership, and advice and knowledge, to not only the boys playing in the senior team, but potentially coaches and the guys that are just outside the 22.”
