Final quarter
Although the game was all but over entering the final term, Melbourne produced a strong quarter, outscoring St Kilda with eight goals to four.

Blease kicked three for the term to finish with a career-best five goals.

But it mattered little in the end, as the Saints ran out 25-point winners.

St Kilda 16.11.107 defeated Melbourne 12.10.82

Third quarter
The Demons started the second half promisingly when Lynden Dunn kicked a remarkable checkside goal, courtesy of a couple of fortunate bounces from outside 50 metres. And when Blease kicked his second - a soccer goal - soon after, the Demons trailed by just four points at the six-minute mark and it was game on.

But when Beau Wilkes kicked his second - and the first of three goals for the term - the game changed dramatically.

St Kilda kicked the next seven in a row to lead by 50 points at three quarter-time.

Second quarter
Goals were hard to come by in the second term.

But after posting six behinds, Melbourne finally got on the board via Jeremy Howe, who snapped truly at the 16-minute mark. Earlier in the quarter, he provided his weekly hanger, when he glided across the pack and raked in a fine grab.

Sam Blease added Melbourne’s second and the margin was cut to nine points, but when Beau Wilkes scored St Kilda’s only goal in time-on, the Saints took a 16-point lead into half-time.

St K 5.5.35 to Melb 2.7.19

First quarter

Melbourne produced a disappointing opening term, with St Kilda booting four goals to zip.

The Demons could muster just three behinds, as the Saints led by 23 points at the first break.

The only sour note for St Kilda’s term was a serious looking knee injury to skipper Nick Riewoldt.
