Moloney suffered the setback in the early stages of Melbourne’s 11-point loss to Fremantle at Subiaco Oval in round 16.
But he will have to get through the rest of the Melbourne’s training sessions this week, before he can be a confirmed starter against the Tigers.
Youngster Jack Grimes (hamstring) is now a week to two away from resuming after being sidelined for the past month.
First-year midfielder Jordie Gysberts will be out for another two to four more matches with a back issue.
Key forward Michael Newton is a chance to return from a quadriceps injury this weekend, if he can get through training, but big man Stef Martin will miss with a hip complaint.
Forward Danny Hughes will be sidelined for another 1-2 weeks, while ruckman Jake Spencer is also two more weeks away.
Ricky Petterd (shoulder) and John Meesen (foot) remain out for the rest of the season.
