IT HASN’T taken long for the third pick in last year’s draft to prove his worth at Melbourne.
In just his fifth game of AFL footy, Luke Jackson earned the Round 10 NAB Rising Star Nomination for a standout effort against the Crows.
Jackson, who was recruited as a versatile ruckman, spent the majority of Wednesday night’s game up forward, booting two goals from his eight disposals.
The 18-year-old from Western Australia had five score involvements, three inside 50s, two contested marks and provided a chop out for Max Gawn in the centre, with 14 hit-outs to his name.
Jackson’s efforts helped the Demons claim a 51-point win and made him a worthy recipient of the prestigious award.
At 198cm, Jackson is a raw talent with a basketball background, who will continue to develop in years to come and looks to be an exciting long-term prospect for the club.

The Demons now prepare for a clash with North Melbourne on Sunday, where Jackson will play a crucial role in combatting Todd Goldstein’s influence in the ruck, as well as continuing to work in tandem with Sam Weideman inside 50.
