BALL movement coach Mark Williams runs through the 22 players who played in Melbourne’s 89-point win against Fremantle at the MCG

Clint Bartram: Clint was solid in defence. He just needs to continue to assess his options when he uses the ball. He missed a few targets we would expect him to hit .

James Frawley: James provided plenty of run and carry out of the backline. He kicked the ball well and spoiled with aggression, causing several turnovers that resulted in us taking the ball inside 50.

Col Garland: Colin played a very solid game after a reasonable lay-off with injury. He spoiled aggressively and provided good rebound off half-back. He used the ball intelligently and directed play into the corridor, which was pleasing.

Max Gawn: Max had 22 hitouts and took three marks. He helped to turn the ball over with his pressure and his chasing, which is tremendous given his size. A goal to Jack Trengove came directly from one of his tackles in the third quarter. It was also great to see Max kick his first AFL goal.

Brad Green: Brad led from the front with five goals, four behinds. His contesting one-on-one was outstanding, as was his forward pressure. He continues to drive his teammates through his actions.

Jeremy Howe: Once again, Jeremy was an excitement machine. His work rate was outstanding, as was his ability to take contested marks under pressure. He kicked two goals and help set up several others. Given more opportunities, he will continue to develop.

Nathan Jones: As always, Nathan’s work rate was outstanding. His attack on the ball was great. He continues to work hard and do the right things for the team.

Liam Jurrah: Liam couldn’t take a trick on the weekend. He fumbled and bumbled his way through the game, but in the end he kicked two goals and got something for his efforts. He always plays well against the Tigers and we look forward to seeing him continue that trend this week coming.

Joel Macdonald: Joel was again really solid, beating his opponent one-on-one, in the air and on the ground. He provides a great example with his physicality and continues to start our counter attack with his effective ball use.

Stef Martin: Steffy again stood up under pressure. His three goals were a great result for him, particularly because they came from contested marks in our forward line. He continues to take the game on and has improved each week because of this.

Brent Moloney: Beamer’s team focus while being tagged was a highlight. We managed eight first possessions and six clearances, all under close attention. He continues to break up the play with his aggressive spread. He also forced the ball forward under pressure from stoppage. His tackling was outstanding.

Cale Morton: Cale did some pretty good things, but still needs to work on some aspects of his game. He continues to impress with his intensity and his running when in possession, but must maintain his concentration better when covering for teammates and at stoppage.

Jordie McKenzie: Jordie copped a hard whack early in the game but incredibly, managed to maintain his work rate and intensity for the remainder of the game. He worked diligently to curb Matthew Pavlich’s effectiveness when on ball, while he was still able to set up play with great ball use by hand in and under. We would like to see him kick the ball more often as his stats would suggest. He had two kicks and 26 handballs.

Daniel Nicholson: Daniel provided fantastic rebound off half-back and took the game on at every opportunity. He broke the play up with some good run and carry and showed great confidence with a breakaway goal late in the game. This game will provide Nicho with more valuable experience for the future.

Ricky Petterd: Ricky was lively up forward. He kicked a goal and created some  good opportunities for his teammates through his tackling and pressure. Rick’s focus needs to be consistent performances. He will be focused on backing up this performance with another hard working game against the Tigers this week.

Jared Rivers: Jared again didn’t have a big possession game, but played an important role for the team. He continues to lead the backline with voice and direction. His spoiling was a highlight and created many opportunities for counter attack. He switched play consistently and used the ball intelligently.

Tom Scully: Tom started like a house on fire. His first few possessions were a bit rushed, but he quickly settled and had a big impact on the game. The connections he provided for our backs were important. He continually set up play through his dynamic run and carry. Tom is building some consistent form through his involvement in the game and his sheer hard work.

James Strauss: James had a really positive game. His defensive game was again solid. He’s starting to build in confidence, and take the right options instead of just the safe options with his kicks. He needs to continue to do this to advance his game.

Col Sylvia: Col’s work rate was terrific. He continually makes his opponent defend him by spreading hard forward and getting involved in the play. Once again, he hit the scoreboard early in the game, which was important for both him and the team’s confidence. His pressing was a highlight.

Jack Trengove: Jack had another solid game. Ten contested possessions shows he puts his body on the line for the team. He kicked a goal at an important stage of the game and continues to make good decisions and use the ball effectively.

Jack Watts: Jack had a game where he showed his capabilities and skills. He had 10 handball receives, nine contested possessions, six marks and bagged three goals. He continues to build his confidence and status within our team. A game that reflected his progression this season.
