SKIPPER Brad Green has earned plaudits from coach Dean Bailey, following his four-goal effort against Essendon at the MCG on Friday night.

Green was one of Melbourne’s most instrumental players, kicking a goal in each term, helping the Demons to a 33-point win.

Bailey couldn’t speak highly enough of Green’s captaincy during his post-match media conference, after some scrutiny had recently been placed on the club’s reigning best and fairest winner.

“He’s a great leader. He is a fantastic young bloke and he is incredibly professional with his attitude and his training,” he said.

“Again, not only is he is leading from the front, but he’s prepared to put himself out there like he did during the week and take on all comers.

“For him to kick that goal off the ground ... I don’t think we could’ve picked a better player on the ground to have actually stood up in that moment to kick that goal.

“He does a lot of work around the club and off-field and he’s just been fantastic.”

Bailey also said the performance of vice-captain Jared Rivers, who was excellent down back, deserved recognition.

“I thought Rivers was outstanding,” he said.

“Jared’s played two or three games this year, which have been of very high quality and he led from the front and was fantastic.

“He led the back six today and he was just terrific, Jared.”
