COACH Todd Viney has praised the four-goal performance from skipper Brad Green against Gold Coast Suns at the MCG on Sunday.
Green endured plenty of scrutiny during the week, after he was a substitute last round against Richmond.
But Viney said the captain got better as the match progressed.
“He kicked four and early on he just seemed to [not] quite finish the play,” he said.
“So there were a couple of times when he was a little bit off finishing the mark. But to kick four, I thought was really good.”
Viney was particularly pleased with Green’s fourth goal - a steadier in the final term.
“I said in the box ‘this will be a captain’s goal’ if he can kick it and it was a great kick,” he said.
Viney also said midfielder Tom Scully had endured a tough year due to his knee injury and the constant scrutiny about his playing future.
“It’s been a big year for him. There has been a lot of speculation, but he’d probably be thinking … he’s not in great form,” he said.
“He sets really high standards and sometimes that can weigh on you too.
“He’s a young fella trying to work his way through that. He’s been put through what more than most 19 year olds get put through, so he’s probably a victim of that.”
Meanwhile, Viney was optimistic Liam Jurrah’s shoulder injury was not too serious.
“I think he’s just jarred his shoulder at this stage, but we’ll see how that unfolds over tonight and tomorrow,” he said.
