The Melbourne Football Club made has made history today with yet another pioneering endeavour, taking the step as the first team in the AFL to conduct football clinics in collaboration with female footballers.
Every Demon on the playing list travelled throughout the City of Casey, conducting clinics alongside Victorian Women’s Football League state players Daisy Pearce, Meg Hutchins, Penny Cula-Reid and Kara Donnellan.
Leaving no doubt in anyone’s minds as to their standing in the game, the girls worked side by side with Melbourne players, facilitating clinics and panel discussions, with their contributions proving that football is not just for males.
Mark Jamar worked collaboratively with gun midfielder Kara Donnellan - who hails from Berwick - to share their insights into becoming professional footballers with the students at Southern Cross Primary School. It was an inspirational experience for students and players alike.
“It’s been an awesome day with the kids out in the City of Casey, and it was fantastic to have the VWFL girls come along with us. Their knowledge of the game and skills are unbelievable, so it was great to work with them in inspiring so many young girls and boys to pursue AFL”, said Jamar.
The Melbourne Football Club is a strong advocate for women’s football, and is a proud sponsor of the Victorian Women’s Football League.
