MELBOURNE has traded utility Cale Morton to West Coast Eagles for selection No.88.

Morton played 73 matches for the Demons from 2008-12, after being selected at No.4 in the 2007 NAB AFL Draft.

He started his career strongly, playing 40 matches in his first two seasons.

But injuries and frustrating form restricted him to 33 appearances from 2010-12.

He will return to his native state of Western Australia.

Morton claimed a NAB AFL Rising Star nomination in his first season.
