DEFENDER Joel Macdonald is on target to return for Melbourne’s round 17 clash against Port Adelaide at TIO Stadium.

Macdonald missed last round’s loss against Western Bulldogs with a knee injury after an impressive period of form, from rounds nine to 14.

With the Demons having the bye this round, Macdonald could return via Casey this weekend, if fit. Casey plays Box Hill Hawks at Casey Fields on Sunday at 2pm.

Tall Michael Newton (foot) will miss a further three weeks, while ruckman/forward Jack Fitzpatrick (ankle) is 1-2 matches from resuming.

Leader Jack Grimes (foot) and ruckman Jake Spencer (knee) are out for the rest of 2011.
