Coach Dean Bailey said the strain would be treated as a hamstring injury, although it would not set back the courageous Demon long-term.
“He’s got a real minor strain, but I’m not even sure you’d grade it - they tend to grade them. Hopefully it’s a little bit of back-related stuff, but we’ll treat it like it’s a hamstring,” he said post-match.
“His pre-season was very good, Rick. He’s got a great recovery attitude. He’s had his shoulder [injury] and he’s a ripping young bloke.
“If he misses one or two weeks, it’s not going to stop him from having a good pre-season.
“He’s been training very well the last six weeks - he’s been very good.”
Meanwhile, skipper Brad Green (ill) and leader Nathan Jones (soreness) were rested from the intra-club match.
Bailey said the duo should be right for the team’s opening NAB Cup clash next Friday against Adelaide and Port Adelaide.
“Greeny’s been crook. He’s had gastro the last two days,” he said.
“Jonesy is sore. He was our runner today, but he should be OK for next week.”
Bailey said mature-age rookie ruckman and new Demon Robbie Campbell, who didn’t play in the intra-club clash, would be eased along for the rest of the pre-season.
“Robbie had a slight hiccup over Christmas coming into the New Year,” he said.
“His knee is fine, but he was doing too much training to be honest. Robbie is a real professional with his attitude and the way he goes about it and he was a little bit sore in his achilles.
“But he’s running 200 and 400 metres now, so he just needs some conditioning. I’m sure in the next two or three weeks, if there is an opportunity, we will [play him], but I think he’ll miss most of the NAB Cup. He’s back running really strongly now, which is good.”
