Returning for his first match since the round 11 Queen’s Birthday clash against Collingwood, the versatile Demon started on superstar Gary Ablett, before he succumbed to a shoulder injury in the second term.
Morton came from the ground instantly, after hurting his shoulder in a contest near the boundary line and interchange.
Coach Mark Neeld said more would be known about Morton’s shoulder on Monday.
“He got a whack in the shoulder and it popped out,” he said.
“The boys (medical staff) have put it back in. They’re those injuries that you need to wait 24 hours just to see if the doctors are happy that it went back in and they don’t think there is any structural concern or ligament damage at this stage.
“They’ll check that out tomorrow (Monday).”
Neeld said the late withdrawal of midfielder Jordie McKenzie meant that Morton was given the job on Ablett.
“Jordie McKenzie pulled out this morning with a sore knee,” he said.
“Cale has a terrific engine and we felt that he was one of the midfielders who could run with Gary.”
