POSSIBLE No.1 draftee Jack Watts has confirmed he will be a candidate in this year's NAB AFL Draft.

The tall Sandringham Dragons/Brighton Grammar forward said he would definitely nominate for the November draft, after being unsure mid-season.

"Mid-year I really didn't have any idea of what was going to happen and I just wanted to leave my options open," Watts said on the first full day of the NAB AFL Draft Camp at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra on Wednesday.

"Now that I've found out a little bit more about it and I've talked to a few people, it was a pretty easy decision."

Watts, who will be completing year 12 next year, said his reason for committing to this year's draft was simply to make the most of his chances.

"You never know what could happen next year. I could go down with a knee and I wouldn't be in the same situation," he said.

"I'll take it while it's here."

With Melbourne having the first pick in the draft, Watts is right in the mix to head to the Demons. And despite the red and blue's bottom-of-the-ladder season in 2008, the 194cm tall is not averse to lining up with the Dees.

"Every club has had their turn on the bottom and it's all about that rebuilding stage and Melbourne is going through that stage at the moment," Watts said.

"I think they've got a really bright future and they've got some great young talent at the club, so it'll be great to go to Melbourne or any of the clubs. Hopefully I can add that [young talent]."

Although Watts' main priority is gaining an opportunity at the highest level, he is hopeful of remaining in Victoria, due to his school commitments in 2009.

"I'd be looking to stay at home next year and do my year 12 at Brighton and then we'll see after that," he said.

As for the possibility of being the first player selected in this year's draft?

Watts said: "It'd be a great honour. It's a tough one to pick. We've got no idea and it's up to the clubs and we'll just give our best at the camp and see how we go."
