IN-FORM Melbourne leader Brad Green could miss up to two matches after sustaining a hamstring injury late in Sunday's loss to the Western Bulldogs at Telstra Dome.

Football operations manager Ross Monaghan said Green's injury was not fully known until Monday morning.

"Towards the end of the game on the weekend, he got sore in the hamstring and was able to play out the game," Mongahan told melbournefc.com.au.

"But he was a little bit restricted and, on Monday morning, he came in for an injury assessment and he strained it badly enough to miss one week and maybe two.

"If he had have torn it badly, he wouldn't have got through the game so it was just a bit sore," he added. "But after the game, and once it had cooled down on Monday morning, it was pretty clear it was a bit of problem.

"Now that the medical staff has had a chance to assess it, they went through a normal process and analysed it and decided it would take one week to get over it and quite possibly two."

Monaghan said Green had been an important player for the Demons this season.

"It's a shame because Greeny has been fantastic this year and there have been other injuries he has overcome in other weeks, and he's had some other issues which have been burning around and he manages to get up and play with them," Monaghan said.

"He's an incredibly courageous character that seems to always come up, but this one has just grabbed him and a week or two's rest won't do him any harm."
