MELBOURNE has re-signed three of its young players with defender turned forward Colin Garland, former rookie Jordie McKenzie and NAB Rising Star nominee Tom McDonald all penning new deals.

Garland and McKenzie have signed three-year extensions while McDonald has committed to the Demons for two years.

Melbourne president Don McLardy made the announcement on Saturday at the president's lunch leading into the game against Richmond.

The 24-year-old Garland has played 71 games with the Demons and was elevated to the club's leadership group this season. After playing most of his career with Melbourne as a defender, he has had some recent success playing forward and was instrumental in the club's upset win over Essendon in round 10.

McKenzie played his 50th game last week against the Lions and has been a model of consistency since making his debut as a rookie in round 17, 2009. He has played every game this season and has won respect as a dogged opponent capable of shutting down the game's stars.

Tom McDonald has emerged as a promising young defender this season. The 19-year-old has played 14 games in two seasons and had established himself in the Demons' defence until he suffered a bleeding lung in a nasty clash early in last week's game against the Lions.
