THE DARE to Dream Gala Dinner, Wednesday 1 August, saw many of Melbourne’s influential female media, sporting and business personalities come together for a night of fun, frivolity and fundraising.

Guests were inspired and entertained by ABC TV presenter and Herald Sun columnist, Bev O’Connor, radio personality and journalist, Brigitte Duclos, MFC favourite and Price is Right host for the evening, Russell Robertson, along with Jesse Hooper of Killing Heidi with special guest Casey Richardson.

And the reason everyone was in the room? To support The Melbourne Football Club’s Dare to Dream community program. This innovative program focuses on young girls in the City of Casey, aiming to positively impact their aspirations and encourage them to follow their dreams.

MFC Board member, Women of Melbourne Chair and CEO of Guide Dogs Victoria, Karen Hayes, said it was not only a fantastic event, but an incredible opportunity for attendees to be a part of something really special.

“We launched Dare to Dream last year which saw us help 35 teenage girls at Lyndhurst Secondary College. In the City of Casey, only 46% of teens will finish Year 12, with 40% dropping out by Year 10 or below. These are alarming stats and we want to help change this,” she said.

Hayes explained that the young girls who had gone through the 8 week program were amazing examples of the inroads that has been made.

“The shift in the girls has been incredible, and we are just so proud of what the program has achieved. The main focus was to improve self esteem, confidence and just encourage them to realise the bright future they have ahead,” she said.

Hayes said it is a huge step in the right direction as the Club continues to focus on establishing a strong presence in the community and, in particular, supporting women and girls.

“Dare to Dream is a great example of the community work the Club is doing and we will continue to push the agenda to recognise its importance. We are incredibly grateful for all those who came along to support the program and look forward to updating everyone on the progress of the program,” she said.

A flurry of gift bags, incredible prizes, yummy cupcakes and inspiring stories ensured both an enjoyable and uplifting experience was had by all.
