MELBOURNE coach Dean Bailey is not fussed about being underrated by opposition teams despite none of the 16 opposing captains predicting the Demons will make the finals.

Thursday's captains survey revealed that the Demons, along with the Brisbane Lions, Gold Coast, Port Adelaide and Richmond, were not rated by any opponents as finals contenders.

The snub did not go unnoticed by Bailey, but he said he was not concerned about outside predictions.

"We were one of a few. I think the views of the captains are always of interest and they make print and media but at the end of the year, it will determine how we've gone. It's an opinion and they obviously have their reasons why," Bailey said on Friday.

"It's a marathon, not a sprint, and we're a long way away from where finals are.

"We've got round one against the Swans and it is a really strong month we've got to put forward before we got a bye in round five. We've got next week's game and whatever happens outside of that, I'm sure there are plenty of people covering that."

Jack Trengove only completed light duties at Friday's training session at the MCG but Bailey said he should be able to recover from an ankle injury that hampered the latter part of his pre-season in time for the round one clash with the Sydney Swans.

But it was a different story for James Frawley (pectoral) and Jordie McKenzie (groin).

"Trenners will train today. He should be OK for next week. Chippa (Frawley) will probably kill me if I say it but he is probably less likely to play round one," Bailey said.

"McKenzie won't play but I would think at this stage, most of the other guys will be available depending on how they train next week. We've got a reasonably good list of players to pick from."

Friday's training session was the Demons' first look at the MCG in 2011 and Bailey said he hoped the side could make more appearances at the home of football in the lead-up to games.

"We get to use the full ground. We're out there for 45 minutes today. At least we get to use the full ground. That's an advantage for us," he said.

"Will it be an advantage if it happened every week? That'd be ideal if we could get that."
