Melbourne coach Dean Bailey is under pressure
By Jon Ralph

NEXT weekend will mark the 75th game of Dean Bailey's tenure at Melbourne, yet still no one has any idea if he can coach. We know him as a likeable, honest man of integrity. But that no longer cuts it for Bailey, out of contract and saddled with a lengthy injury list at the most critical time of his coaching career. He must prove in the next 15 weeks what he has not in 3 1/2 seasons: that he is capable of inspiration, of tactical innovation, and of the ability to fast-track the wondrous talent on the Demons' list. Because if you break down the areas where he will be judged by the Melbourne hierarchy, none of it makes a case for re-extension. Bailey must deliver results despite his side's form, despite its injury list, and against some of the most feared opponents.
