MELBOURNE’S Mitch Hannan is set to play his first game of the season, named to take on Adelaide at TIO Stadium on Saturday night.
Having been sidelined with a knee injury for the first half of the year, Hannan is one of three inclusions for the red and blue, with Christian Salem and Michael Hibberd also selected in the Round 11 side.
Versatile small Jay Lockhart and defender Harry Petty have both been declared unfit and will miss with knee complaints, while Corey Wagner was been omitted.
Wagner will join this week’s emergency list, alongside Jay Kennedy Harris, James Jordon and Sam Weideman.
Hannan’s selection comes after a successful VFL return and hit out, where he kicked an impressive goal in the Casey Demons’ loss to Williamstown last weekend.
At the other end of the ground, Hibberd’s inclusion will be well-received by the Demons’ backline, having missed the past two weeks with a collarbone injury.
Salem will also be looking to continue his great start to the year, overcoming concussion symptoms that caused him to be a late withdrawal in Round 10.
Following a disappointing loss to GWS last weekend at the MCG, the Demons will be looking to register their fourth win of the season when they travel north to Darwin.
Speaking earlier in the week, coach Simon Goodwin said it will be pleasing to get some senior personnel back in his side.
“Cohesion is a big part of footy – being able to play together for a long period of time,” he said.
“When we’ve had the players out that we have, we’ve lacked that continuity.
“We need to start to build that cohesion back in our footy club again.
“I’m really confident that when we do, we’re going to start taking bigger strides forward.”
