RUCKMAN Mark Jamar will miss the next three to four matches with a calf injury, which he sustained against Fremantle at Etihad Stadium last Saturday.

Jamar, who returned in round 16 after missing the previous two matches with a calf injury, reinjured it in the first quarter.

But football manager Josh Mahoney said Jamar had proved his fitness in the lead-up to the clash against Freo, despite hurting it again.

“Mark had completed all of the relevant tests during the week and he was passed fit by the medical staff,” he told melbournefc.com.au.

“He felt comfortable that he could play out the game and it’s unfortunate that he’s hurt his calf again and he’ll miss the next three to four weeks.”

As already known, the news wasn’t great for versatile small Jamie Bennell, who suffered a season-ending knee injury.

“Unfortunately, it’s been confirmed that Jamie Bennell has injured his anterior cruciate ligament and has sustained further damage to his knee,” Mahoney said.

“He will go into surgery on Wednesday and he will undergo conventional treatment, which means anywhere between nine to 12 months on the sidelines.”

In better news, in form defender Jack Watts is a chance to return this round.

“Jack Watts missed the game on the weekend with an ankle injury,” Mahoney said.

“He will be monitored throughout the week and a decision will be made later in the week.”

Tough nut Luke Tapscott is also in the mix to play after missing last round.

“He pulled up with groin soreness post training on Friday and he was a late withdrawal on Saturday,” Mahoney said.

“We expect him to be available this week.”

Defender James Sellar could also return from a thigh injury.

But boom forward Mitch Clark and 2009 club champion Aaron Davey will miss the rest of the season with foot injuries, while defender Clint Bartram and ruckman Max Gawn will also be sidelined for the remainder of 2012.

Forward Liam Jurrah (ankle) remains out for at least another two weeks.

Midfielder Rory Taggert is out indefinitely with a back injury.

First-year Demon Josh Tynan (concussion) will face a fitness test, while rookies Kelvin Lawrence (calf) and Jai Sheahan (ankle) will miss another two weeks each.
