PRESIDENT Don McLardy says the club has instituted non-negotiables as part of the club’s mantra.

Speaking at Melbourne’s commencement dinner, McLardy said for the club to go to the next level, it needed everyone on board.

“No matter what the circumstances, everyone needs to buy into this, and it starts from the board down,” he said.

“If we want to become, as Neil Craig simply puts it, a serious football club, then our non-negotiables must be exactly that.

“Our staff and our playing group now know what those expectations of non-negotiables are. And we’ll all have to adhere.”

But McLardy said that the club will continue to support its personnel in tough times.

“Above all those non-negotiables, our club will continue to be totally supportive and empathic of the circumstances of each individual at our club,” he said.

“I think our support of Liam over the last few days has been an example of that.

“Because our club has gone to Yuendumu twice, we do have some understanding of the unique situation, and we’ve got great respect for Liam as a person and a leader.”
