Jurrah wins mark of the year
LIAM Jurrah’s spectacular grab against Port Adelaide in round 21 has netted him the Alex Jesaulenko Medal for the 2010 AFL mark of the year.
The exciting forward flew high over the top of teammate Jack Watts and Port Adelaide’s Nick Salter during the third quarter at AAMI Stadium, pulling down one of the most memorable marks in recent years.
Interestingly, Jurrah’s incredible grab was not judged the best mark of round 21, with that honour going to St Kilda’s Brendon Goddard.
Goddard took his beauty against Richmond at Etihad Stadium the day before Jurrah’s hanger.
But both marks were considered the two standouts of the year.
Tiger forward and 2010 Coleman Medallist Jack Riewoldt rounded out the three contenders for this year’s mark of the year. He took his grab against St Kilda in round 11.
Jurrah also won a Panasonic prize pack valued at $9000 and a year’s supply of Caltex fuel valued at $2,500 for his mark.
Shaun Smith (1995) and Michael Newton (2007) are other Demons to have won the mark of the year.
Hawthorn star Lance Franklin won the Phil Manassa Medal for the 2010 goal of the year.
