Watch Sam Blease in action

Date of birth: 19/2/91
Height: 184cm
Weight: 70kg
Club: Eastern Ranges

Bio: A lightly-built midfielder who is an excellent kick on both sides, Blease can bring others into the game with his use by hand. He shows poise and balance with the footy, is an AIS/AFL Academy graduate and was a Vic Metro Under-18 representative in 2008.

Jason McCartney says: His capacity to run the lines is remarkable, he can run really hard at top pace, and he used the ball really well. What really stood out for me, in the final of the under-18 championships, was a passage of play that would have had recruiters drooling. He ran down a WA player between wing and half-back at top speed, the ball spilled free, another player gathered the loose ball and then handballed on to Blease who had run to just forward of the wing and drilled the goal running inside 50.

In his own words:

What are your strengths?
I think I am reasonably athletic. I really like to run and carry the ball and I think I am a pretty good user of the ball.

Weaknesses?
I had an injury-plagued start to the year which put me behind in terms of my fitness. I thought I had a really inconsistent year but am looking forward to getting a lot fitter during this pre season.

Which AFL team do you support?
I have supported Richmond all my life and I was fortunate enough, through the AIS-AFL Academy program, to spend a week training with them. It was a great experience to train with and learn from the players I have followed all my life.

Which AFL player do you feel you most resemble?
I think I have a bit of Brett Deledio and Dale Thomas in the way I play. They are both really quick and exciting players to watch who are also really good finishers. I would like to think I resemble bits and pieces of them.
