The Read Like a Demon and Write Like a Demon program kicked off for 2010 on Tuesday afternoon at three locations - Cranbourne, Endeavour Hills, and Narre Warren.

The sessions, which involved over 100 students, were hosted by MFC players.  Stefan Martin and  Lynden Dunn travelled to Cranbourne, Jared Rivers and Nathan Jones visited Endeavour Hills, and Cale Morton and Michael Newton went to Narre Warren.

Players took part by reading a book to participants, asking students what books they have read recently, talking about books they themselves have read, and answering questions from the very interested students.

Participants were also lucky to have visits from popular authors Chrissie Perry (Cranbourne), Andrew Macdonald (Endeavour Hills), and Phil Kettle (Narre Warren), all of whom took students through a workshop explaining the finer points of writing books, and sharing some experiences as a author.

Read Like a Demon and Write Like a Demon combine to create a literacy program that offers primary school students an opportunity to participate in reading and writing workshops with the Melbourne Football Club.

This is a joint partnership between the Melbourne Football Club and the Casey Cardinia Library Corporation, and is supported by Hardie Grant Publishing.

The program is delivered over two years, being aimed at 160 students from ten schools in the City of Casey region.  The first of many workshops kicks off next week, with players and authors visiting local libraries, aiming to assist and develop students’ reading and writing skills.
