WANDSWORTH Demons recently smashed Putney Magpies by 74 points in this year’s AFL London Premiership.

The win was achieved in the highest level of three grades in the AFL London Premiership, with Wandsworth’s seconds and thirds also grand finalists, although unsuccessful.

Although Putney never gave up, Wandsworth produced a dominant display after half-time, running out comprehensive winners.

Mark ‘Brescy’ Brescacin, with the flowing locks, was judged best-on-ground, after a bag of goals and countless disposals. He has played top level amateurs in the WAAFL.

The seconds and thirds are mostly Australian players, whereas the Premiership side has to include half European.

Half of Wandsworth’s team this year included players from England, Wales and Ireland, which was the strength of its team. And New Zealander Louis McLennan, a ruckman, had to nudge out an Australian for a position in the side.

The Australian contingent features captain Jeremy Coombe and onballer Chris Hood, who have both played for WAFL clubs. Full-forward Chris Cant also played in the AFLQ.

Gav Mahoney and Andrew Jansen have also played in quality Victorian leagues.

Luke Ivens, who won the best and fairest award last year, returned to SANFL club North Adelaide this year.

Premiership coach Marcus ‘Thommo’ Thomas has already announced his retirement after finishing on a high.

The team’s vote count is imminent and the players enjoyed their celebrations with a long weekend in Majorca.

The final score:
Wandsworth Demons 2.5 6.7 11.11 15.15 (105)
Putney Magpies 0.2 2.3 3.3 4.7 (31)
