MELBOURNE has rushed back key big men Mitch Clark and James Frawley for Saturday’s clash against Geelong Cats, but left out another tall Jack Watts.

Defender Joel Macdonald has also made way for its round six clash at Simonds Stadium.

For Watts, who has played 45 matches, it ends a 42-game consecutive streak, which started in round eight, 2010. For the record that was his fourth appearance for the Demons.

Only Nathan Jones, who has played the past 50 matches in a row, has a better current sequence of successive games for Melbourne.

Football manager Josh Mahoney said Watts would play for Casey against Geelong in the curtain-raiser at the cattery.

“Jack has been left out of the team this week. He will get an opportunity with the Casey Scorpions on Saturday to work hard and regain his spot in the side,” Mahoney said.

Clark missed last week with concussion, which he sustained against the Western Bulldogs in round four.

The former Lion crashed head first into the MCG deck, after flying for a mark in a pack situation.

Clark was then taken to hospital for precautions, but was not risked last round.

Frawley, who was a late withdrawal against St Kilda last Saturday night, returns after a calf complaint.

The Demons have named Jamie Bennell, Ricky Petterd and Macdonald as their emergencies.

Macdonald will be the first emergency for Melbourne and won’t play for Casey in the earlier match, starting at 10am.

He has played four of the five matches, except the round three encounter against Richmond, when he was an emergencey.

Bennell and Petterd have played one match each this season, both in the round two loss to West Coast Eagles at Patersons Stadium.

Melbourne will be heading down to Geelong for the first time since it suffered the second worst loss in VFL/AFL history in round 19 last year.

Thirteen players from Melbourne’s 186-point loss will return for the clash.

Coming in are: Clint Bartram, Tom McDonald, Jack Grimes, Cale Morton, James Sellar, Clark, Aaron Davey, James Magner and Rohan Bail.

Missing from last year’s team are: Jordan Gysberts, Liam Jurrah, Addam Maric, Stef Martin, Ricky Petterd, James Strauss, Watts, Brad Green and Daniel Nicholson.

The Demons remain winless after five rounds, while the Cats have won three matches this season.
