THE MELBOURNE Football Club is pleased to announce that Opel Australia has exercised its option to continue as Joint Major Partner for 2013.

Opel will again feature on the back of the Melbourne playing guernsey along with the training apparel and signage at the MCG and Club training facilities.

This tops off a big week for Opel, as it officially launches in Australia with 17 dealerships across the country on 1 September.

Melbourne CEO Cameron Schwab said: “This is a tremendous coup and reinforces the great faith Opel have in the Club to play a significant role in the launch and ongoing sales of the Opel brand in Australia."

“Since joining forces earlier in the season, we have worked very diligently with Opel to understand their philosophies, their history and their objectives for the Australian market.

“Opel and the Melbourne Football Club both have rich histories and we see this as the beginning of a very long-term partnership for the Club.”

Opel was founded in 1862, in Rüsselsheim, Germany, where its headquarters remain. It now sells vehicles in more than 40 countries.

It operates plants and development centres in seven European countries, employs more than 40,000 people (as at December 2011) and has more than 6,500 dealers.

In 2011, Opel sold more than 1.2 million vehicles in Europe alone.

Manager Director of Opel Australia Bill Mott said “Opel and Melbourne Football Club share a proud history of passion and both companies strive for quality at all times. We are proud to join forces with the Demons and continue this exciting and rewarding partnership into the future".
