THE MELBOURNE Football Club was proud to support and celebrate ‘Melbourne Day’, Tuesday 30 August, marking 176 years of the city’s founding.
The day was officially opened by Melbourne’s Lord Mayor Robert Doyle, with a flag raising ceremony at Enterprize Park on the Yarra River. Club legend, David Neitz, attended the ceremony along with over 200 other special guests.
Colin Sylvia and Jordie Gysberts joined the Melbourne Day celebrations by visiting the Melbourne City School, along with fellow Melbourne clubs the Vixens and the Rebels.
Sylvia and Gysberts spoke to the students about what Melbourne Day meant to them, paying tribute to the rich history of the Melbourne Football Club and providing information about the game’s establishment.
