IT MIGHT have been one of Jordan Gysberts’ hardest weeks at Melbourne, but he couldn’t wipe the smile from his face following Melbourne’s 33-point win over Essendon.

The midfielder was a massive contributor in the win, collecting a career-best 30 disposals, as the Demons notched up their fourth win of the season under lights on Friday at the MCG.

Gysberts said the build-up to the round 11 clash had been intense, but the final result was sweet.

“It was a pretty hard week actually,” he said.

“It was pretty tough to go to training after all of the media comments were said during the week and everyone was down after last week’s game.

“But the guys got up and about and it’s fantastic.”

The second-year Demon was in no doubt where he rated the win.

“Yeah, definitely [the best I’ve played in],” he said.

“To come from behind, after being down at half-time, was good.

“The guys in the midfield really helped me out, but it’s great that a few of the young guys that are coming through are having an impact.”

Gysberts said it was the ultimate team performance with 22 contributors, which helped set up the win with six goals to zip in the third term.

“It set us up fantastically and everyone played their role during the game. We switched the ball well and worked well through the zone and we got a couple of goals from that,” he said.

“Everyone really stepped up and we were challenged during the week. We saw the comments coming into the game and it gave us a lot of motivation. We really had to make a stand.

“It’s good to see the guys are smiling. Hopefully it’ll continue next week against Collingwood.”
