Round 22 Melbourne player review
Assistant coach Mark Williams runs through the 22 players from Melbourne’s 10-point loss to North Melbourne at the MCG on Sunday
Clint Bartram: Clint had a reasonable game. He played on some dangerous forwards and won plenty of uncontested possessions.
Matthew Bate: Matty worked really hard, but he didn’t get reward for his effort.
Cameron Bruce: Cam had an even start to the game and a really good third quarter. In his last quarter, he got caught out a little bit.
Lynden Dunn: Lynden was very solid and gave us a real spark. He kicked some great goals and took some really good contested marks.
James Frawley: James was solid without being outstanding. He had his hands full with the North Melbourne movement up forward. He still provided some good run with eight rebound 50s. His switch of play was very good out of the backline.
Colin Garland: Col was a little bit on and off, I reckon. He got caught not pressing up at times and on other times he got to the contest, spoiled and won the ball back.
Brad Green: Greeny had a very good game, kicking five goals, and was a livewire up forward. He took some great contested marks and he finished off his work with some great goals.
Mark Jamar: ‘Russian’ went alright in the ruck. He had 35 hit outs and dominated that area again. His tap work really set up some of our play. His counter-attack was also strong. He also had 12 possessions, and did some good work around the ground. It was a good result for him.
Nathan Jones: Nathan had his hands full with Brent Harvey. I thought Harvey got away from him early, but Jonesy backed himself in really well. But then he got injured, which was unfortunate, and then Harvey had an influence towards the end.
Liam Jurrah: Liam was outstanding. Every time he touched the ball, it looked as though we were going to score. Some of his athleticism was outstanding. He also took some great marks again.
Joel Macdonald: Joel’s attack on the ball was really good again. His desperation was also impressive.
James McDonald: Junior, as he always has, worked his way throughout the game. He’s an outstanding player, and he capped off his career with 26 possessions and a fine game. It was just disappointing that we couldn’t gain a win for him.
Jordie McKenzie: Jordie worked hard and he had to try and stay on Andrew Swallow, when James McDonald wasn’t on him. He continually persisted.
Brent Moloney: Beamer gave us some really good drive out of the centre. His work in-and-under was really good. He won some good clearances, so it was a shame he couldn’t finish off kicking a goal in the last quarter.
Cale Morton: Morts showed some fine flashes of play. He used the ball pretty well, but on some occasions he still needs to finish off his work a bit better.
Michael Newton: ‘Juice’ did some good things in the ruck, and had the opportunity to kick some goals at important times, but he just couldn’t finish off his work.
Jared Rivers: Jared played pretty tight and was good in the second half. He kicked the ball really well.
Tom Scully: Tom was pretty solid throughout the day and he was involved in some very good passages of play. He was our leading ball-winner with 28 possessions.
Colin Sylvia: I thought Col was really good, and his attack on the ball was really good. His use was pretty good as well. He had a game-high 11 inside 50s.
Jack Trengove: Jack did some exciting things again. It’s been a long year for Jack, and he got himself over the line with his preparation. He’s done really well this year.
Jack Watts: Jack’s athleticism was really good. But he needed to finish off his work sometimes.
Austin Wonaeamirri: Aussie’s chasing, tackling and pressure was fantastic. Once again, he just needs to get more of the ball.
