Assistant coach Josh Mahoney runs through the 22 players from Melbourne’s 19-point win over Essendon at the MCG on Sunday

Clint Bartram: Had an important job, playing on Alwyn Davey, who can really set them alight. Barty stuck to his task all day and really negated the impact of Alwyn all game.

Matthew Bate:
Bater found it difficult to get into the game, but he still played an important role for us at times. He always takes a good opponent and his work-rate, as the game went on, got better.

Jamie Bennell:
Jamie looked exciting up forward again. He found some really good space and probably could’ve got on the end of two or three goals, but he played his role. His pressure in the forward line is important for our structure.

Cameron Bruce:
Brucey has been down a little bit in the past few weeks, so it was really good to see him bounce back, taking the game on and running with the ball. To finish off with two goals was a great effort.

Kyle Cheney:
Kyle played his second game for the year and we saw the benefit of having him in the team. He doesn’t shirk an issue and goes back with the flight. He also won some really important contests.

Aaron Davey:
Aaron gets closely checked every week and he’s starting to learn how to help out his teammates. He’s also doing a lot of unrewarded stuff for us. To have nine tackles was the Aaron Davey pressure back to its best.

Lynden Dunn: Dunny did a really good job early on Jobe Watson. He dropped off a bit later, but overall he did a very good job on a really important player for Essendon.

James Frawley:
You know James Frawley’s on his game when he’s spoiling for us - regardless of who he plays on. He really spoiled the ball well. He also won the ball well and rebounded.

Colin Garland:
He was really important again. When he’s playing well, he always gets his hands in and spoils and he did that. He also has terrific closing in speed. The last month we’ve seen him get his confidence up and when he’s doing that, he can take any match-up.

Brad Green:
Brad has been consistently performing well every week. He plays on the wing and when he goes forward he kicks goals, so he proves every week what an important player he is for us.

Mark Jamar:
He fought really well against Paddy Ryder and Tom Bellchambers. He was important when he went forward and I was really pleased he kicked two goals.

Paul Johnson:
Johnno came back into the team, having not played for a number of weeks. He played forward and in the ruck. He was very important in providing some help for Russian (Mark Jamar). We didn’t lose much at all, when Paul went into the ruck. As a forward, he is always dangerous, because he can take a defender.

Nathan Jones:
Jonesy had a run-with role with Brent Stanton, who is a very important player for them. He really kept Stanton out of the game and also win some important footy.

Liam Jurrah:
After being out for a long-time, LJ was a bit scratchy. But to end up with two goals and to provide some contests was a good first-up effort. We’re looking forward to him playing some more games.

Joel Macdoald:
Joel played in defence and then on the wing for us. He showed with his attack on the ball that he doesn’t shirk an issue at all. He ran back with the flight and his hardness around the footy was important for our younger defenders.

Jordie McKenzie:
Again we saw the importance of Jordie. He’s another midfielder who can go in and impact with his pressure around the ball. He was a real highlight again.

Brent Moloney:
Beamer worked hard throughout the game. He was very important for us in and around the clearances and kicking the ball inside 50. He adds grunt to our midfield and he’s played that role well for us all year.

Jared Rivers:
Riv started the game really well, backing his positioning and going in for his marks. He’s a really important player for us. He missed a few kicks early, but he helped out with the positioning and helped out with the match ups. Again, his experience down back is invaluable for our young defenders.

Tom Scully:
Tom took a while to work into the game. In the second half he played on Jason Winderlich and did a really good job on him. We’ll use him more in those types of roles.

Col Sylvia:
It was great to have Col back in our side. He’s an important player for us, playing through the midfield and up forward. To end up with 29 possessions was a terrific return game for Col.

Jack Trengove:
Jack played a few different and important positions for us. He played up forward and through the midfield - it was a pretty sturdy game from Jack, winning 16 possessions and kicking two goals.

Jack Watts:
Jack continually worked hard in the forward line. As he plays more games, he’s starting to get a bit more attention from defenders and he’s working through that, which is really pleasing.
