BOOM recruit Mitch Clark says he is relaxed about returning to Queensland this Saturday night, when Melbourne takes on the Gold Coast and Brisbane Lions in its first NAB Cup hit-out for 2012.

Clark said he isn’t nervous about playing against his former teammates.

“Not really. It should be fun. I’m sure I’ll get a few boos and hisses here and there,” he told melbournefc.com.au.

“I’m sure it’ll just be another game once the first 10 minutes are out of the way.

“It should be good. I’m really excited about it. Pre-season is officially over now, so the boys are excited to get stuck into the games.”

Clark still keeps in contact with several mates, and indicated that some friendly banter had taken place in the lead-up to the clash.

“They’re (the Lions) all saying how fit they are and how strong they are at the moment,” he said.

“I’m sure Vossy has got them working really hard.”

The 82-gamer said he was eager to play up forward for the Demons, despite being named in the 2009 All-Australian squad as a ruckman.

“I’m excited about it. I’m there to contribute to the team, so hopefully I can do that up forward,” he said.

“[I just] want to provide a target, and compete and try and take a few grabs and put a few through the sticks. Otherwise, [I’ll] just have to provide a contest.

“The last couple of years … hopefully I can hold my spot down there.”

Clark said helping his new teammates with structures will be a key focus in the NAB Cup.

“And getting through and getting some match fitness will be nice … no matter how much you run around the track,” he said.

Although yet to live in Melbourne for six months, Clark said he had adapted to his new city comfortably.

“It’s been great. The move has been really smooth, and the boys at the club have been really welcoming and have helped me and my partner settle in Melbourne,” he said.

“I’m just excited to play footy, and that’s what I’m here for,” he said.

“It’s a good time of the year when the games roll around.”
