THIS week marks the AFL’s Women’s Round - a celebration in which the Club is proud to take part.
During the week, Brad Green and Matthew Bate have worked closely with the women’s High Performance Academy, which is made up of the best female footballers in Australia.
Gosch’s Paddock was turned in to a sea of red and blue when the all girls clinic took place, hosted by various members of the playing group. After watching the team train, 40 young girls had an opportunity to have their own training session with Neville Jetta, Leigh Williams, Jake Spencer and Women’s Football Ambassador, Brad Green.
Jake Spencer said, “It was great to have so many girls turn out, and to see so many of them dressed in red and blue. Their skills were impressive!”
Women’s Round acknowledges the valuable contribution of women to Australia’s game, and focuses on recognising and developing female leadership across all levels of the Australian football industry, from community to the elite.
The Melbourne Football Club is leading the way in supporting women in football by being the first AFL club in history to be major sponsors of the Victorian Women’s Football League. The Club has sponsored the VWFL since 2009, and is passionate about promoting females who play, administer and support Australian Rules.
As Melbourne plays in the Northern Territory this weekend, the Club dedicated their own round to women in football in Round 13 at the MCG. To find out more about the Round 13 celebrations, click here.
