The Demons are coming off a three-point loss to Geelong, and while the game wasn’t pretty, there’s a good chance the same 22 will take the field in Round 5.

So far in 2020, the Dees have made a total of 12 changes (from just two selections), with a different looking side taking the field in each of their three games.

Should Melbourne opt for another move at the selection table, there will be plenty of boys putting up their hands.

Harley Bennell

Many believe Harley Bennell was unlucky to miss last weekend’s game, and he showed his craft up forward in the practice match with four of his side’s seven goals.

The only question mark surrounding the former No.1 draft pick is whether he has the run in the legs to compete all day.

Alex Neal-Bullen

Alex Neal-Bullen’s work without ball in hand may be appealing to the coaches this week.

He averaged 20 pressure acts across the opening two games of the season, and if the Dees are looking to create more forward half pressure following Geelong’s tactics last week, Neal-Bullen may be the man.

Luke Jackson

The Dees trialled a small forward set-up in Round 4, which resulted in just six goals.

It would be worth giving that mix another week to settle, but if they feel an extra tall is needed Luke Jackson provides flexibility.

The 18-year-old could pinch hit in the ruck, allowing Max Gawn to spend more time inside 50, while he’s also nimble at ground level.

Sam Weideman is another who is waiting in the wings for his shot as the second tall forward in 2020.

Nathan Jones

Nathan Jones showed his class in the practice match on Sunday and is more than capable of performing at the top level.

If he gets his body right, he will be in the frame once again.

Neville Jetta

Neville Jetta was omitted last week in a bid to find some form, and he will be itching to get back into the senior side.

Jay Lockhart would be unlucky to miss after just one game, but the Demons do have options to choose from.

Oscar McDonald

Melbourne’s development coach Matt Egan said Oscar McDonald was undoubtedly best afield in the reserves last week, and he is ready for another shot at AFL level.

While McDonald is often subject to scrutiny from fans, he is a reliable one-on-one defender, and will be waiting for a spot to open up in the back six.
