EMERGING midfielder Michael Evans will miss up to a month with a foot injury.
Acting football general manager Josh Mahoney said Evans “pulled up with a sore toe” following Melbourne’s most recent match against Collingwood.
“Scans revealed a stress reaction around his toe and he’ll be sidelined for three to four weeks,” he told melbournefc.com.au.
But big men James Frawley (hamstring) and Chris Dawes (ankle) remain in the mix for Saturday’s twilight clash against St Kilda at the MCG.
Frawley missed the Queen’s Birthday loss to Collingwood at the MCG, and Dawes was subbed out of that match in the second half due his injury.
“James has been increasing his intensity and workload, so he’ll be an outside chance of playing this weekend,” Mahoney said.
“Chris was put into a boot following our Collingwood game as a precautionary measure, and he’s starting to begin his running. As he progresses, he’ll build up, and at this stage he’ll be touch and go for this week’s game.”
Midfielder Jordie McKenzie (elbow) and defender Joel Macdonald (foot) must also pass fitness tests.
But co-captain Jack Grimes (shoulder) and young gun Jack Viney (toe) will miss another three matches each.
“Jack Viney is progressing well. He’s now running at a good intensity, and he’ll just need to build up his workload in the next couple of weeks,” Mahoney said.
Key forward Mitch Clark remains sidelined indefinitely with a foot injury.
