JACK Viney says his rough conduct charge on Adelaide’s Tom Lynch, which was eventually overturned by the appeals board during the 2014 season, was a stressful period.
Viney’s round seven charge was sent straight to the tribunal by the match review panel after his collision with Lynch accidentally broke the Crow’s jaw.
The tribunal initially rubbed Viney out for two matches, before the appeals board ensured Viney was free to play.
The incident in May ended a draining week for the 20-year-old – although he received a wave of support from the AFL community at large.
“Looking back, it was quite a stressful week and I probably didn’t realise the impact that it did have on me, until looking back on it now,” he told Dee TV.
“I’m really lucky that I had the support of the public and footy players on the outside.
“Trying to prepare and then going to the tribunal for a couple of hours – it all took its toll and it was certainly a different routine leading into a game.
“It was interesting, but I enjoyed having that hardship and then to seize the challenge and prepare as best I can … that was a real positive that I could take out of that whole experience.”
