DEVELOPMENT coach Brad Miller reviews the Melbourne-listed players who played in Casey’s six-point win over Essendon at Windy Hill on Sunday
Sam Blease: Bleasey showed dash up the ground and generally used the ball OK. We are working with Bleasey to get more involved defensively and also to work hard back inside 50 to become a real threat in front of goals.
Mitch Clisby: Mitch started the season playing a really solid game. He had a lot of the ball and generally used it well by foot and hand. He still has plenty of upside and will be important as the season progresses.
James Harmes: James is a competitor and did his job competently. He is working on having more composure with the ball in his hands. He gives his all and will continue to improve as a player.
Jayden Hunt: Jayden showed some electrifying speed with the ball in his hands. He will continue to improve, as he uses his strengths and begins to finish off his good work by making a composed decision with the ball.
Mark Jamar: Mark dominated the ruck and was instrumental in the final minutes to help get the win. He lacked a bit of touch around the ground and didn’t have a great impact outside the ruck, but will be better for the run.
Neville Jetta: Nev had a fantastic game. He started forward and moved into the middle after half-time. Nev was hard in the contest; rarely got beaten and laid some great tackles. He then went forward again, when the game needed winning and took a contested mark in between three spare Essendon defenders and kicked truly. His strength in the contest, both in the air and on the ground, was telling.
Max King: Kingy had a quiet day and is finding his way through playing in the ruck against much bigger bodies. We would love to see him have more impact in the forward line, when he goes down there, as he is a good mark and solid kick. He will continue to improve as he gets stronger.
Jordie McKenzie: Jordie produced a solid reliable game. He looked fit, used the ball well and was pretty clean.
Viv Michie: Viv started the game well until an ugly incident left him with a fractured jaw. He did exceptionally well to continue playing, but had little impact after that.
Daniel Nicholson: Daniel played a very solid game. I thought he played his role well. He used his legs to drive out of trouble and break the lines. He saw a lot of the ball across half-back.
Aidan Riley: Aidan was as tough as nails. It was a very good first up effort. He was returning from a serious leg injury. He peeled himself off the deck from numerous contests, winning or neutralising contest after contest. He needs more time playing and training to get his fitness levels up, after such a long stint on the sidelines, but he was very impressive.
Christian Salem: He looked competitive and composed. The next layer to Christian’s game will come from him backing his ability to take the opposition on with his leg speed and ball use. He is a great kick and as we see him use it more to attack through the corridor, he will be a very dangerous player.
Jack Trengove: Jack had a quiet start, but worked his way into the game well. He stood up in the last quarter and was pivotal in Casey winning the game with some leadership and drive out of the middle.
Jimmy Toumpas: I thought he was good off half-back. He looked composed and competed well. Jimmy ran well to take the game on and often chose the right option by foot.
