Lynden Dunn and James Frawley were not the only people who were keen to get to the beach last week but unlike others, they had a special mission – to give the children of Berry Street a day to remember.
Each year, Berry Street Ambassador James Frawley and his team mates head down to the coast to lend a helping hand at the Berry Street Foster Care Camp.
As Lynden Dunn explained, for many of the children, it’s the only holiday they have all year, “This is the only holiday most of these kids will get for the year so to get them out of the house and give the families a break, it’s great to see.”
For James Frawley, it’s more than just giving the children a great day out; it’s about developing a long term relationship with Berry Street with the aim of bettering the lives of disadvantaged children.
“I’ve been a Berry Street ambassador for five years and I want to help out whenever I can. Berry Street do a great job with foster care and give these kids a better start at life. It gives the parents time to relax while also giving the kids a fun experience.
The thrill of having AFL players spend the day with them in the surf was not lost on young Will, “It was awesome” he said. “It was fun to meet them and I’m famous because I shook a famous person’s hand!”
Elise McDonald, Berry Street senior manager commended the Melbourne Football Club for their ongoing, genuine support.
