Final quarter
Although the match was all but over, Gold Coast outscored Melbourne in the final term with four goals to three.

Green booted his fifth to achieve his equal career-best goal haul. It was the sixth time he has kicked five goals in a match.

In the end, Melbourne won its third match of the season by 42 points. It was capped off with a Jeremy Howe hanger and subsequent goal after the siren.

Third quarter
Just four goals were added in the third term - three to Melbourne and one to Gold Coast.
 
The Demons got the first three on the board and claimed a 54-point lead mid-way through the term. Green added two to have four by the final break. Harley Bennell, who kicked his second, was Gold Coast’s lone goalscorer.
 
At three quarter-time, Melbourne led by 47 points.

Second quarter

Melbourne extended its lead to 46 points when Sylvia booted his second to start the term.
 
But when Gary Ablett opened Gold Coast’s account, the visitors registered three of the next four goals, cutting the margin back to 26 points.
 
However, the Demons hit back late in the quarter via Luke Tapscott and Jack Trengove, giving the home side a 38-point lead at half-time.
