IN 2015, MELBOURNE and Richmond started a new ANZAC tradition.
On the eve of a day that means so much to this country, the two sides met to play a game that was bigger than football.
For the past five years, fans have risen in silence as the MCG lights are dimmed for a touching pre-game ceremony.
The Cauldron is lit, The Last Post is played, and the players break through a mutual banner to honour those who have fought for Australia.
It’s a unique occasion that allows the football community to pay their respects, putting the four points into perspective that evening.
While the Demons and Tigers won’t be able to contribute to the ANZAC Day reflections in 2020, take a look at some of the best images from the special occasion in years gone by.
