MELBOURNE is just one week away from kicking off its 2020 AFLW campaign, preparing for a clash with North Melbourne at Casey Fields next Saturday.
With a couple of big names under injury clouds, get up to date with the girls’ fitness in the lead up to Round 1.
Lily Mithen
Ankle | 4 weeks
Lily Mithen went down with an ankle injury early in her side’s clash with Collingwood and underwent surgery last Tuesday.
The midfielder will be required to stabilise her ankle over the coming weeks and is expected to return to the side in Round 4.
Lauren Pearce
Knee | 4 weeks
Lauren Pearce had a knee operation in December to clean up some cartilage and has been in recovery over the past month.
She is on track with her rehab and similarly to Mithen, will be hoping to be back by Round 4.
Kate Hore
Shoulder | Test
Kate Hore suffered a minor shoulder injury in the club’s match simulation against the Cats two weeks ago.
While the star forward sat out the practice game last Saturday, she should be right to go against the Roos.
Tegan Cunningham
Quad | Test
Tegan Cunningham has been nursing a quad injury over the past few weeks after pulling up sore at training.
Her recovery has progressed well and she is likely to line up next weekend providing a major boost for the Demons’ forward line.
Ainslie Kemp
Ankle | Test
Ainslie Kemp is recovering quickly from an ankle injury sustained against Collingwood last week, but will be touch and go to put her hand up for Round 1.
Maddy Guerin
Calf | Available
Maddy Guerin sat out the second half of last week’s practice match with ice on her calf but is in the clear to play against North Melbourne.
Aliesha Newman
Head | Available
Aliesha Newman came off the field late in the game against Collingwood but has had no setback and will be ready to go next week.
