MELBOURNE ruckman Mark Jamar says the win over Port Adelaide in Darwin has set the Demons up for a tough month of matches.

The Demons face Hawthorn at the MCG next Sunday, followed by clashes with Geelong at Skilled Stadium, Carlton at the MCG and West Coast at Etihad Stadium.

"It's going to be a big month ahead of us, but we just need to keep playing the way we train and putting the processes we put in place on the training track out on the field," Jamar said.

"We weren't good enough against the Bulldogs [in round 15] and we had to respond, and hopefully this is a good platform leading into the next few weeks."

The Demons came away with the win against Port despite a five-goal run from the Power that narrowed the margin to less than three straight kicks midway through the last quarter.

Jamar said the game review would focus around how the Demons allowed the Power to get back into the contest when they had been as much as 45 points in front.

"We came up to Darwin to win a game of footy and that's what we did," he said.

"It wasn't pretty by any means, but we got the job done.

"They had a sniff, and they came pretty hard and we need to probably address that and not let sides get a sniff when they're that far in front.

"It's something we're going to work on during the week but we're going to develop it as our group gets more mature."

Jamar was icing his knee after the game but said he had to do it after any exercise since the injury he sustained in round seven against Adelaide.

He missed six matches and returned in round 14 against Richmond.

"It's just part of being a professional athlete. You've got to do the right thing by your body and get the most out of it," Jamar said.

"I've been jumping in the contests as hard as ever so I've been really fortunate to have a good recovery process, and I'm very happy with the way it's gone."
