MELBOURNE midfielder Jack Trengove has escaped penalty, despite his sling-tackle on Western Bulldog Callan Ward being scrutinised by the match review panel.

Trengove, who was handed a three-week suspension for a similar tackle on Adelaide's Patrick Dangerfield in round seven, drove Ward into the ground during the third quarter of the Demons' big loss on Friday night.

Ward was penalised at the time for holding the ball.

In its report released on Monday, the MRP stated that, "while the action was a slinging motion, the impact on this occasion was below that required to constitute a reportable offence.

"The majority of the contact to the ground was to Ward's shoulder and there was no significant impact on Ward's head/neck area."

The key factor in Trengove's favour was that Ward wasn't injured by the tackle and was able to play out the game.

While he is in the clear, Trengove won't be playing this weekend as Melbourne has the bye.

The Demons next take to the field against Port Adelaide in Darwin in round 17.

Brent Moloney should also be free to play in that game after he was offered a reprimand for a high bump on Ryan Griffen.

The incident drew a one-match suspension, but Moloney can have the penalty reduced to a reprimand if he lodges an early guilty plea.
