First quarter: North Melbourne 7.4 (46) to Melbourne 2.0 (12)
North Melbourne dominated the opening term.
The Kangaroos booted seven goals to lead by 34 points at quarter-time.
Chris Dawes and Jesse Hogan were Melbourne’s only goalkickers for the term.
Second quarter: North Melbourne 9.4 (58) to Melbourne 6.4 (40)
The Demons hit back early in the second term, when Dawes booted the first two goals to reduce the deficit to 21 points.
But when the Roos answered with a couple, the margin was back out to 33 points.
However, Melbourne kept at it and when Hogan added his second and Jack Watts kicked truly, the margin was just 18 points at half-time.
Third quarter: North Melbourne 12.10 (82) to Melbourne11.6 (72)
Melbournecontinued its fine comeback in the third term and almost grabbed the lead.
The Demonsbooted five goals to three, and got to within two points on three separateoccasions in the latter part of the term, before North Melbourne’s Ben Brownput the margin back out to 10 points with a goal on three quarter-time siren.
Hogan (whokicked his third), Jeff Garlett, Angus Brayshaw, Jack Viney and Nathan Jonesall landed majors for the Dees.
