BACKLINE coach Jade Rawlings says “a lot of progress” has been made in 2015, despite acknowledging the fact that Melbourne has been inconsistent in several matches this year.
Speaking in the lead-up to Melbourne’s clash against Geelong at Simonds Stadium on Sunday, before its mid-season bye, Rawlings said the Demons had still developed, even though inconsistency was still an issue.
“Our first month was in games and we were winning,” he told Dee TV.
“We won two out of four and then we had that really rough patch against Freo, Sydney and Hawthorn, which was really hard to get a gauge of where we were at – considering how well those teams were going.
“We beat the Bulldogs and were in a winning position against Port and we couldn’t close a winning position against Collingwood and St Kilda.”
Although Rawlings said Melbourne’s up-and-down style had been frustrating at times, he said the competitiveness of the team was building.
“There has been a lot of progress in areas of our game, but at the same time we’re still matching it with some inconsistencies in periods of the game as well,” he said.
“You look at it positively from the amount of games that we’ve won and also been in a position to win, but [there have been] areas where we’re let ourselves down with big drop-offs at various times.”
