AS WE enter day three of the NAB AFL Trade Period, the futures of a couple of Tigers are major talking points, as was a meeting between Fremantle coach Ross Lyon and potential recruit Harley Bennell, while Jeremy Howe holds out for the Pies.
AFL.com.au's Trade Winds will provide a round-up of the latest movement every morning until the end of the Trade Period on Thursday October 22.
Lennon impasse could give Tigers the Blues
Richmond is busy in the trade marketplace in its quest for talent to boost its premiership credentials, but some of the Tigers' good work will be undone if they don't secure uncontracted youngster Ben Lennon.
The Herald Sun reports that Carlton might try to convince the 20-year-old forward to enter the pre-season draft, where the Blues could snaffle him with the first pick.
Trade Wrap: Yaz stalemate
Of course, Carlton would use that pre-season draft selection on Greater Western Sydney star Adam Treloar in the unlikely even that the Giant is not traded to Collingwood.
Lennon, whose two seasons at Tigerland have netted 16 games including the last eight rounds before being dropped for the qualifying final against North Melbourne, was a Blues fan before being drafted in 2013.
Richmond wants Lennon to stay, and Lennon is also keen to remain a Tiger.
The Herald Sun also reports that Carlton is trying to orchestrate a trade that would land them Brisbane Lions youngster Sam Mayes in exchange for midfielder Tom Bell and key forward Levi Casboult.
However, the Blues could miss out on Geelong forward Josh Walker, with Melbourne rivals believed to be circling the 22-year-old.
Carlton is keen for the 196cm forward to be thrown into the deal that sends swingman Lachie Henderson to the Cats.
Big Tiger could be the key in Yarran trade
Richmond key defender David Astbury could relocate to the Brisbane Lions as part of a three-way deal that lands Carlton speedster Chris Yarran at Punt Road.
The Herald Sun reports that the contracted Astbury is weighing up a move north after playing just 24 games his past five seasons at Richmond and not coming into the selection frame for much of this year, given Alex Rance and Troy Chaplin are entrenched in defence.
The 24-year-old enjoyed working under Justin Leppitsch when the Brisbane Lions coach was an assistant at Richmond.
One scenario has Astbury joining the Lions in a deal that would include either pick 17 (which the Lions gained from West Coast for Jack Redden) or pick 21.
However, The Age says the Lions are determined not to trade away either of those picks.
Carlton wants a first-round selection for Yarran but the Tigers are unwilling to part with their pick 12.
When Harley met Ross
Fremantle has been reassured of Harley Bennell's determination to become a top-line player after Dockers coach Ross Lyon met the jettisoned Gold Coast star.
The Age reports that Lyon and Bennell had a chat in Perth on Tuesday, and the experience allayed some of the Dockers' concerns over Bennell's focus.
Freo appears the only suitor for Bennell, but former Adelaide skipper Chris McDermott believes the Crows should launch a bid for the brilliant midfielder/forward as a replacement matchwinner for Patrick Dangerfield.
"Due diligence must be done before he is invited in or allowed to pass to another club, but when you talk indigenous players, few clubs have had a better success rate over the past 25 years than the Crows," McDermott wrote in his column in The Advertiser.
Howe much, Pies?
High-leaping Demon Jeremy Howe is waiting for an offer from Collingwood before he announces his preferred trade destination, The Age reports.
The uncontracted 25-year-old has already received strong bids from Gold Coast and North Melbourne but the Magpies are yet to make a formal offer despite meeting Howe several times.
A Howe-to-Collingwood deal would possibly involve young Magpie Ben Kennedy.
Meanwhile, Sydney has signalled its interest in Collingwood speedster Paul Seedsman, who would provide some much-needed run given the imminent departure of Lewis Jetta.
Like Howe, Seedsman is already being sought by the Suns and the Kangaroos.
Bomber unscathed from scandal
Should uncontracted Essendon runner Elliott Kavanagh find a new home, he won't be subject to any penalties handed down as part of the Bombers' 2012 supplements program because he didn't receive any injections, the Herald Sun reports.
Kavanagh will meet new coach John Worsfold, possibly on Wednesday, to discuss his future. The 22-year-old, who has played just 12 games in four seasons, wants to stay at Bomberland.
Out-of-contract teammate Courtenay Dempsey, who has sparked some interest among rival clubs, will also meet with Worsfold before assessing his next move.
