MELBOURNE will open its 2016 NAB Challenge against Port Adelaide at Playford Alive Oval (Elizabeth Oval) in Adelaide next year.

The game will be played on Saturday, February 27 and will be the first time former Demon Jimmy Toumpas comes up against his ex-teammates.

It will be the first of three NAB Challenge matches for the Demons.

Melbourne then takes on the Western Bulldogs at Craigieburn on Sunday, March 6.

It will be the second successive year Melbourne has played the Western Bulldogs in the NAB Challenge, after the Demons defeated the Dogs in Ballarat this year.

The Demons complete their trio of games with a clash against St Kilda at Etihad Stadium.

Melbourne will then start its 2016 home and away season against Greater Western Sydney at the MCG on Saturday, March 26.

The full 2016 premiership season fixture will be released on Thursday.
