THE presence of Neale Daniher in the build-up to the Queen’s Birthday clash was inspiring, says NAB AFL Rising Star nominee Angus Brayshaw.
Speaking the day after Melbourne’s 25-point loss to Collingwood at the MCG, Brayshaw said Daniher had been a great person to have around at the club in recent times.
“He’s not just inspiring for us, but I think everyone with what he’s going through and the way he’s tackling the issue that he’s facing – MND – head on,” he said.
“He’s certainly inspirational for us and a lot of the boys.
“All of the boys take a lot out of it, but some of the boys have been coached by Neale and have a special relationship with him, so it certainly means a lot.
“We try to draw on anything he does … and we try not to let him down. He’s a great man for the club, so it was pleasing that we were able to give the effort, but disappointing we couldn’t win the game.”
Meanwhile, Brayshaw said this Sunday’s clash against St Kilda was shaping up to be a fascinating encounter.
“It’ll be interesting to gauge where we’re at, because we’re similar teams with young lists and I think it’s a great opportunity for our club,” he said.
“We need to bring that effort and polish up on a few things and try and get a good win over the opposition.”
