NEVILLE Jetta says he’s ready for the challenge of playing on dangerous small Adelaide forward Eddie Betts again, when the two sides meet at Adelaide Oval on Saturday.
Jetta, who played one of his finest matches on Betts last year, restricting the livewire Crows to eight disposals and two behinds, said his effort last year helped set up the rest of his season – and rejuvenate his career. Jetta’s performance was a key ingredient in Melbourne’s stunning three-point win over the Crows at Adelaide Oval in round seven, last year.
“I played on Eddie and it was probably my breakout game last year and I really showed my teammates and coaches, and also myself, how well I can play,” he told melbournefc.com.au.
“It was just good to play on Eddie, as everyone knows how good a player he is and what he can do on the field.
“If you have a bad game [on Betts] he can kick 10 [goals], so I’m just looking forward to getting back there and playing on him again. I’ve got a lot of confidence to play on him and to play my role for the team.”
But Jetta said despite playing a fine match on Betts last year, there were no guarantees how the match-up would fare this time around.
“I’ll try and do what I do well and limit his impact on the game, which will also come down to our midfield doing its job and our forwards putting pressure on,” he said.
“That will make our life a lot easier, but most importantly, hopefully we get a win.”
Jetta said the Demons need to get back to playing the type of football they showed against the Suns in round one, when they tackle the Crows.
“We just need to play four quarters, like we did against Gold Coast,” he said.
“We took a lot of positives out of the GWS match, and we’re not going to dwell on the second half too much, but we definitely learned a lot from it.
“If we can take what we learned against the Giants and apply it this week, then I’m sure we’ll have a good result.”
