RUCKMAN Mark Jamar is close to a recall, after impressing for Casey Scorpions in recent times, according to coach Paul Roos.
Jamar has not played for Melbourne since its round five loss to Fremantle. He has since been one of Casey’s best players and is in the frame to return this Sunday against the Western Bulldogs at Etihad Stadium.
“Mark’s been pretty solid and to his credit he’s really driven the standard down at Casey,” Roos said.
“When you’ve got a senior player down there playing pretty good footy, it makes it a lot easier for guys to jump on board.
“He just needs to keep on playing well because that’s all he can do [to be selected].”
Christian Salem is also a chance to play this weekend after being out of the side since round eight with a hamstring injury.
“He (Salem) was pretty important for us early in the year,” Roos said.
“We’ll see how he goes [at training] but we’d like to have him back.”
Roos said former Western Bulldogs coach and now Melbourne development and strategy coach Brendon McCartney had offered some insights into the opposition’s game style.
“He (McCartney) knows the tendencies of the players that he coached over that three year period,” he said.
“The game changes on a weekly basis, based on the opposition’s personal … so most teams have an understanding of the way everyone else plays. It’s just whether you can stop them on the day.”
